Description
A beautifully matured Margaret River Merlot from Haywood's Metricup vineyard, showing a deep ruby colour and generous dark-fruited character.
The nose opens with ripe plum and dark fruits, layered with subtle savoury notes of pencil shavings, wood oil and gentle oak. The palate has good weight and richness, with dark plum and berry fruit complemented by a touch of chocolate. Smooth, integrated tannins give the wine a soft, rounded texture, leading into a subtle and gently oaked finish.
At 14.5% alcohol, this is a generous but approachable Merlot that has developed beautifully with bottle age. The fruit remains at the heart of the wine, while time has brought additional savoury complexity and softness.
Drinking beautifully now. A great match with roast lamb, beef, slow-cooked meats, mushrooms or mature cheeses.

2019 Haywood Merlot — Margaret River - Tasted August 2026
Now beautifully mature, this 2019 Merlot shows deep, stewed dark fruits alongside layers of earthy complexity, dried herbs, leather and cigar box.
The palate is medium to light bodied, with very soft, fully integrated tannins and a gentle dusty oak character adding to the wine’s savoury profile. Despite its maturity, it retains good acidity and freshness, giving the wine balance and keeping the developed fruit lively.
There’s a lovely evolution in the glass, with the mature fruit giving way to more complex earthy and savoury characters before a long, lingering finish.
Drinking very well and ready to be enjoyed now. A mature, complex Margaret River Merlot for the discerning wine lover.
